Presentar conjugation

Presentar conjugation - to introduce

Table of Contents

Presentar is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to introduce”.

Below are all of the conjugations for presentar in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Presentar Infinitive

English Infinitive to introduce
Spanish Infinitive presentar

Presentar Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está presentando) and past continuous (estaba presentando). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. introducing).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he presentado and hubiera presentado. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have introduced).

Gerundio / Gerund  presentando
Participio / Past Participle  presentado

Presentar Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Presentar Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I introduce” or “they introduce”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo presento
presentas
Él / Ella / Usted presenta
Nosotros / as presentamos
Vosotros / as presentáis
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes presentan
Vos presentás

Presentar Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I introduced” or “she introduced” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo presenté I introduced
presentaste You introduced
Él / Ella / Usted presentó He / she / you introduced
Nosotros / as presentamos We introduced
Vosotros / as presentasteis You introduced
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes presentaron They / you introduced
Vos presentaste You introduced

Presentar Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was introducing” or “she was introducing” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo presentaba I was introducing
presentabas You were introducing
Él / Ella / Usted presentaba He was / she was / you were introducing
Nosotros / as presentábamos We were introducing
Vosotros / as presentabais You were introducing
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes presentaban They / you were introducing
Vos presentabas You were introducing

Presentar Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have introduced” and “she has introduced”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo he presentado I have introduced
has presentado You have introduced
Él / Ella / Usted ha presentado He has / she has / you have introduced
Nosotros / as hemos presentado We have introduced
Vosotros / as habéis presentado You have introduced
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes han presentado They / you have introduced
Vos has presentado You have introduced

Presentar Conditional / Condicional

The conditional is used in place of the English modal verb “would”, i.e. “I would introduce” or “she would introduce”. It can be used to talk about hypothetical situations.

Pronoun Spanish Englush
Yo presentaría I would introduce
presentarías You would introduce
Él / Ella / Usted presentaría He / she / you would introduce
Nosotros / as presentaríamos We would introduce
Vosotros / as presentaríais You would introduce

Vos presentarías You would introduce

Presentar Future / Futuro

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will introduce” or “they will introduce”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a presentar” means “They are going to introduce”.

Yo presentaré I will introduce
presentarás You will introduce
Él / Ella / Usted presentará He / she / you will introduce
