Desactivar conjugation

Desactivar conjugation - to deactivate

Table of Contents

Desactivar is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to deactivate”.

Below are all of the conjugations for desactivar in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Desactivar Infinitive

English Infinitive to deactivate
Spanish Infinitive desactivar

Desactivar Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está desactivando) and past continuous (estaba desactivando). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. deactivating).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he desactivado and hubiera desactivado. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have deactivated).

Gerundio / Gerund  desactivando
Participio / Past Participle  desactivado

Desactivar Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Desactivar Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I deactivate” or “they deactivate”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo desactivo
desactivas
Él / Ella / Usted desactiva
Nosotros / as desactivamos
Vosotros / as desactiváis
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes desactivan
Vos desactivás

Desactivar Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I deactivated” or “she deactivated” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo desactivé I deactivated
desactivaste You deactivated
Él / Ella / Usted desactivó He / she / you deactivated
Nosotros / as desactivamos We deactivated
Vosotros / as desactivasteis You deactivated
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes desactivaron They / you deactivated
Vos desactivaste You deactivated

Desactivar Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was deactivating” or “she was deactivating” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo desactivaba I was deactivating
desactivabas You were deactivating
Él / Ella / Usted desactivaba He was / she was / you were deactivating
Nosotros / as desactivábamos We were deactivating
Vosotros / as desactivabais You were deactivating
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes desactivaban They / you were deactivating

Desactivar Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have deactivated” and “she has deactivated”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo he desactivado I have deactivated
has desactivado You have deactivated
Él / Ella / Usted ha desactivado He has / she has / you have deactivated
Nosotros / as hemos desactivado We have deactivated
Vosotros / as habéis desactivado You have deactivated
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes han desactivado They / you have deactivated
Vos has desactivado You have deactivated

Desactivar Conditional / Condicional

The conditional is used in place of the English modal verb “would”, i.e. “I would deactivate” or “she would deactivate”. It can be used to talk about hypothetical situations.

Pronoun Spanish Englush
Yo desactivaría I would deactivate
desactivarías You would deactivate
Él / Ella / Usted desactivaría He / she / you would deactivate
Nosotros / as desactivaríamos We would deactivate
Vosotros / as desactivaríais You would deactivate

Vos desactivarías You would deactivate

Desactivar Future / Futuro

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will deactivate” or “they will deactivate”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a desactivar” means “They are going to deactivate”.
