Conformarse conjugation

Table of Contents

Conformarse is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to be satisfied with”.

It’s a reflexive verb, which means the subject performs the action upon themselves – e.g. “I wake myself”.

Reflexive verbs always carry a reflexive pronoun – me, te, se, nos or os – which is often placed before the conjugated verb (e.g. me conformo) or after the infinitive (e.g. Él tiene que conformarse).

Below are all of the conjugations for conformarse in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Conformarse Infinitive

English Infinitive to be satisfied with
Spanish Infinitive conformarse

Conformarse Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está conformándose) and past continuous (estaba conformándose). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. being satisfied with).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he conformado and hubiera conformado. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have been satisfied with).

Gerundio / Gerund  conformándose
Participio / Past Participle  conformado

Conformarse Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Conformarse Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I be satisfied with” or “they be satisfied with”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo me conformo
te conformas
Él / Ella / Usted se conforma
Nosotros / as nos conformamos
Vosotros / as os conformáis
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes se conforman
Vos te conformás

Conformarse Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I was satisfied with” or “she was satisfied with” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo me conformé I was satisfied with
te conformaste You was satisfied with
Él / Ella / Usted se conformó He / she / you was satisfied with
Nosotros / as nos conformamos We was satisfied with
Vosotros / as os conformasteis You was satisfied with
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes se conformaron They / you was satisfied with
Vos te conformaste You was satisfied with

Conformarse Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was being satisfied with” or “she was being satisfied with” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English

Vos te conformabas You were being satisfied with

Conformarse Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have been satisfied with” and “she has been satisfied with”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo me he conformado I have been satisfied with
te has conformado You have been satisfied with
Él / Ella / Usted se ha conformado He has / she has / you have been satisfied with

Conformarse Conditional / Condicional

The conditional is used in place of the English modal verb “would”, i.e. “I would be satisfied with” or “she would be satisfied with”. It can be used to talk about hypothetical situations.

Conformarse Future / Futuro

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will be satisfied with” or “they will be satisfied with”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a conformarse” means “They are going to be satisfied with”.
