Arrimarse conjugation

Arrimarse conjugation - to bring close or move near

Table of Contents

Arrimarse is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to bring close or move near”.

It’s a reflexive verb, which means the subject performs the action upon themselves – e.g. “I wake myself”.

Reflexive verbs always carry a reflexive pronoun – me, te, se, nos or os – which is often placed before the conjugated verb (e.g. me arrimo) or after the infinitive (e.g. Él tiene que arrimarse).

Below are all of the conjugations for arrimarse in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Arrimarse Infinitive

English Infinitive to bring close or move near
Spanish Infinitive arrimarse

Arrimarse Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está arrimándose) and past continuous (estaba arrimándose). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. bringing closer).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he arrimado and hubiera arrimado. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have brought closer).

Gerundio / Gerund  arrimándose
Participio / Past Participle  arrimado

Arrimarse Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Arrimarse Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I bring closer” or “they bring closer”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo me arrimo
te arrimas
Él / Ella / Usted se arrima
Nosotros / as nos arrimamos
Vosotros / as os arrimáis
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes se arriman
Vos te arrimás

Arrimarse Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I brought closer” or “she brought closer” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo me arrimé I brought closer
te arrimaste You brought closer
Él / Ella / Usted se arrimó He / she / you brought closer
Nosotros / as nos arrimamos We brought closer
Vosotros / as os arrimasteis You brought closer
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes se arrimaron They / you brought closer
Vos te arrimaste You brought closer

Arrimarse Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was bringing closer” or “she was bringing closer” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo me arrimaba I was bringing closer
te arrimabas You were bringing closer
Él / Ella / Usted se arrimaba He was / she was / you were bringing closer
Nosotros / as nos arrimábamos We were bringing closer
Vosotros / as os arrimabais You were bringing closer
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes se arrimaban They / you were bringing closer
Vos te arrimabas You were bringing closer

Arrimarse Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have brought closer” and “she has brought closer”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo me he arrimado I have brought closer
te has arrimado You have brought closer
Él / Ella / Usted se ha arrimado He has / she has / you have brought closer

Arrimarse Conditional / Condicional

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will bring closer” or “they will bring closer”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a arrimarse” means “They are going to bring closer”.
